There are also some tell-tale signs that could indicate a plumbing problem that is in the offing and so homeowners should carefully pay attention to these details.

Realtor.com for instance shared some warning signs that should send any home owner calling for professional plumbing service. One of the signs mentioned in the write-up is a smell of sewage. A/C And HVAC           

“A sulfur or sewage odor – If you’re suddenly hit with the smell of rotten eggs, you might have a broken vent or sewer pipe under your house. Left unchecked, broken vents or pipes can cause environmental issues and wreak havoc with your foundation. In general, it’s a good rule of thumb to call a plumber any time you detect an odd smell.”

Clues to a Sewer Problem

Angie’s List meanwhile shared signs of problems in a home’s sewer system. In their post they mentioned that this can either be due to clogs or tree roots that have crawled up into the sewer space. Plumbing Association of San Diego

“Experts say slow flowing drains, and gurgling noises from your toilet bowls are the first signs that your sewer system is being affected by tree roots. If you don’t take some action to remove the roots, a complete sewer line block will occur. If you get a clog in your home and suspect that a blocked sewer drain is the cause, Sims says it’s important to shut off the water at the source or at the main if it’s a main line clog.”

Home improvement website Essential Home and Garden also shared plumbing issues that could turn into plumbing catastrophes. One of the signs they mentioned in their blog post is discolored water.

“When water turns a different color, then you better beware and find out what may be causing the discoloration. Call your water company to find out if they are dealing with the issue, because if they are, they’ll be able to give you a time frame of how long the problem may last. However, if discolored water is not coming from the main source, then it’s quite probable that your plumbing structure has been compromised and contaminants have made their way into the system. Surely, no one would want to consume discolored water.”
